Background

Who we are
CrossLink is a faith-based, international humanitarian aid ministry. We provide medical supplies of all types to mission teams who staff hospitals and clinics in under-developed countries. These teams minister to the sick and injured in the name of Jesus Christ but serve in the community regardless of religion.

What makes CrossLink unique is that we have the knowledge and the process to acquire materials at low-cost and to ensure that they get directly into the hands of the personnel treating patients. We customize our deliveries to each individual project and give full consideration to the needs of the recipient hospital/clinic and the host country environment.

Although we are not a relief organization, we do respond when possible to crises around the world including regions hit by natural disasters (Indonesia, Honduras and Florida) and areas devastated by war (Afghanistan, the Sudan, Liberia & Sierra Leone.)

We are a designated 501 c 3 organization, audited by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. We are also recognized by the US/CFC and our member number is #14672 and United Way #8295.

Since CrossLink incorporated in 1996, we have shipped more than 28 million in medical supplies to 114 countries.

What we do
CrossLink acquires large volumes of medical supplies and equipment from excess resources mostly donated by pharmaceuticals, hospitals, local physicians and the public. We handle everything from surgical supplies to over-the-counter products, hospital beds to eyeglasses. CrossLink is licensed by the State of Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a warehouse/distributor of medicines.

At the CrossLink warehouse, our mostly volunteer staff package materials for shipment according to incoming requests from groups planning missions. In a typical month we ship approximately $250,000 worth of materials in over 30 shipments. A typical delivery might be anything from several packages of surgical supplies and medicines to a container shipment of hospital equipment and wheelchairs.

Most of the materials we ship are donated. Much of this still usable and good material is considered excess or obsolete by the donor and would end up in landfill were it not for CrossLink.

What we are unable to get through donation, we purchase direct at greatly reduced prices that we pass along to our mission teams.

How we work
Requests for help from CrossLink International begin with a basic application detailing information on the mission. The application is reviewed for compliance with CrossLink requirements. If approved, further information regarding the medical resources needed is gathered. The CrossLink project coordinator discusses the project, necessary documentation, fulfillment date and fees with the recipient and begins the process of fulfillment. When all components of the project are complete, the medical resources with all necessary documentation are shipped to the recipient. For more detail, see the web site section Requests.

Support and Administration
In FY 2004 CrossLink International received $452,000 in donations and other sources of income. Supported mainly by churches, individuals and foundations, CrossLink used these funds to send medical resources valued at more than $3.8 million. The staff of six employees and a dedicated core of volunteers completed 374 individual medical projects, ranging from a suitcase of medicines to 40-foot containers, to 69 countries and the U.S.
